Marietta Square Farmers Market Culinary Competition

This past weekend I was invited to come be a judge at the first Marietta Square Farmers Market Culinary Competition. This cook off was a little different than a regular cook off. First there was two chef’s from the restaurants that are located in the Marietta Square. Chef April Higdon was representing restaurant Jonny MacCracken’s while Chef Micah Pfister represented the restaurant Simpatico. The difference about this cook off was that they had to create there menu using only ingredients found at the farmers market! I really thought this was a great idea, it shows people how you can shop local and create a very healthy meal by doing so! The Chef’s were allowed to shop the market for 1 hour to pick up any ingredients that may be needed. After shopping they would have 1 hour to cook and prepare all the dishes.  The Chef’s needed to make an appetizer, main dish and dessert.  I couldn’t wait to taste what each chef was going to make and what I was going to taste!

So like I said I was one of the judges! Yay me!! The other two judges were foodies like me! One being my friend Jehan Peters who has her own food blog Jehancancook.com. Jehan and I have known each other for a couple years so it was nice to judge with her. The other judge was Mike “Gadget Geek” Stock, he runs 285foodies.com/forum. This was the first time I had ever met Mike and he was such a wonderful guy! Mike knows a lot about food and it was great talking with him about it!

Our winner ended up being Chef April! Congrat! She made some great food. This competition was so much fun! A big thanks goes out to Thomas Spravka for thinking of me! Until next time! Enjoy!
