I came up with this recipe, when I needed to bring a dessert to a function. I wanted to spice up the regular brownie. I used a box mix to make this recipe be a little easier. When I took these I got rave reviews from everyone!
1box of brownie mix
½ cup cinnamon applesauce
½ tsp almond extract
½ cup slivered almonds
1/3 cup dried cherries, chopped
Preheat oven to 350 degrees
In a mixing bowl place the brownie mix along with the applesauce, eggs, almond extract, and slivered almonds. Mix the ingredients with an electric until it’s well blended.
Take the dried cherries and give them a rough chop. Add the cherries to the mixing bowl and stir them in the brownie mixture with a spatula. Make sure everything is well mixed.
Take a 8×8 well greased baking pan and pour the brownie mixture evenly. Cook according to the brownie box but most likely it should be about 40 minutes. I like to check every 15 minutes with a toothpick. Once the toothpick comes out clean from the brownie mix it’s done. Let brownies cool and cut into 9 squares.
To garnish take some confectioners sugar powder sugar and sprinkle over the brownies along with some slivered almonds. Enjoy!
